Advanced Scent Detection

Monday, July 12 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm
This advanced level scent detection course will build from the foundation dogs and handlers developed at the novice/started level. Geared towards competition, but also just perfect for increasing the challenge for your dog as an activity at home. The course will be aimed at increasing both dog and handler skills. Any dog who has completed the novice level course, or dogs/handlers with prior experience at the started level of the sport are suitable for this course. The course will be taught with odours Wintergreen, Pine and Thyme.
Best suited for: All dogs
Prerequisite: Intro to Scent
Cost: $210.00 +GST (9 hours of instruction); Class fees are non-refundable, and submission of payment holds your spot. Space is very limited.

Games Scent Class

The Scent Games class runs for 6 weeks and will feature many confidence and motivation building exercises to play with during each class. Exercises will include containers, interiors, exteriors and will include distractors. Have fun while learning some new ways to challenge your dog's scent work! Food distractions will be incorporated and all three SDDA odours will be used.
Best suited for: Dogs aged one year and up
Prerequisite: Advanced Scent Detection or above

Puppy ABCs: Level 1

Have you recently brought home a cute bundle of fluff? Do you find yourself wondering, "Now what do I do?" Our Puppy ABC's Level 1 is designed to address some of the common concerns and challenges of new puppy parents such as biting, housebreaking, crate training, and jumping. Time will also be dedicated to socializing your new puppy to other dogs, new sounds, textures, and experiences. We will also introduce some basic manners such as sit, down, and come.
Best suited for: Puppies aged two months to five months
Prerequisite: None
Cost: $200.00 +GST (6 hours of instruction); Class fees are non-refundable, and submission of payment holds your spot. Space is very limited.

Perhaps, he has a stellar recall until he's anywhere other than your backyard. Maybe you're struggling with pulling or inappropriate chewing. Or it could just be time to take your puppy's learning to the next level. Puppy ABC's: Level 2 will help your pup develop a better understanding of manners and assist you in understanding how to work around distractions and survive through puppy adolescence.
Best suited for: Puppies aged four months and up
Prerequisite: Puppy ABCs: Level 1

- Dogs must be comfortable in a group class setting, and tolerant of people and other dogs.
- A crate is required. Dogs will be crated for short periods between working sessions.
- Do not attend with a dog who is sick, including vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, lethargy or fever.
- Females in season may attend wearing panties.
- Completion of rally novice class or ability to perform all the novice skills/signs (heeling with turns and pivots, sit, down, stand, stays, turns, call fronts, left and right forwards/finishes).
- Crate trained (dogs must be crated between working sessions)

Rally-O: Skills

This course covers precision heeling, and the rally skills required for Novice including tucked sit, kickback stand, pivots, fronts, finishes, stays and side steps. We will cover CARO and CKC rules and signs, depending on the preferences of the students.
Best suited for: Dogs aged nine months and up

- Crate trained (dogs must be crated between working sessions)
- Experience with mark and reward / clicker training
- Sit

- Stay
- Recall (comes when called)
- Focus (able to focus on the handler for a few minutes at a time in a group class setting)
